2015-2016 Legislative Interests

YMCAs offer driven, community-based programs that are
deeply volunteer driven. YMCAs continue to be the
largest childcare provider in Missouri. YMCAs lift up
healthy eating and active living policies throughout YMCA
programs and priorities.

  • Creating greater awareness of childhood obesity,
    healthy eating and active living in Missouri.
  • Encouraging childcare and school age providers to implement best practice healthy eating and physical activity policies.
  • Improving built environment policy so that children and families can utilize their communities and neighborhoods for safe physical activity.
  • Giving children and families healthier vending options in public areas.
  • Making healthy food available to children and families.
  • MSAY will work to secure services for prevention and early intervention of Diabetes through the YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program (YDPP).
  • MSAY will support funding for child care assistance for working parents.
  • MSAY will support the Youth Opportunities Program.
  • MSAY will monitor tax reform to protect non-profits community based organizations and protect the YMCAs charitable status.
