CHILD NUTRITION PROGRAM

EXPLORE OUR CHILD NUTRITION PROGRAM

The Adair County Family YMCA prepares and delivers healthy and satisfying meals to children in the community during the school year and the summer. These meals are provided at no cost to the child or their family.

The Child Nutrition Program is organized and funded through two programs:
  • The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) during the school year
  • The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) during the summer months

Throughout the year, each child between the ages of 3 and 18 and who requests a meal will receive a supper meal that includes a whole grain, milk, a fruit, a vegetable and 2 or more ounces of a meat or a qualifying meat alternative (usually cheese, yogurt, sunflower seeds, sunbutter, hummus or soy butter).

During the summer, lunches, which have the same meal components as supper, are provided at some sites and a 3 part breakfast is provided at the YMCA.  Students eat their meals at one of our multiple serving sites where they are supervised by trained staff and have the opportunity to work on a supplied activity.
